Spotted: Chris Gallagher

We bumped into Chris Gallagher as he left his Harlem apartment this rainy Sunday afternoon- and though we're not sure where he was going, we managed to delay those plans to catch a few photos. He's a snazzy suit-and-tie wearing Wall Street professional from Monday-Friday but on the weekends he transforms into his own version of sophisticated style. Check him out below:

Monstrinho!

Recently, we had the pleasure of attending an art exhibit for the unique and talented artist Michael "Monstrinho" Amorillo! The event was held at the ever-popular tattoo shop Wooster Street Social Club in Soho. There was a great turn out of Monstrinho supporters and fans, and the atmosphere was the perfect combination of sophisticated and cool. A variation of Monstrinho's vibrant creatures were showcased, and with the purchase of a small print, you could be the proud owner of a personal on-the-spot drawing.

Collage-aphry by Ariel Zorrilla

Meet Ariel Zorrilla. This week's featured young talent is a humble model and Iphone Collage Artist out of Brownsville, Brooklyn! Ariel first discovered his interest in art while in 7th grade. Thanks to a teacher that started an art program where it was previously non-existent at his school, Ariel began to develop his talent as a painter. He's been painting for 6 years, but upon his discovery of collage work he prefers the storytelling outlet that it allows. Some artists that inspire his work include Chuck Close and Frida Kahlo. He respects that these artists draw mainly from experience because he believes that it's way more impactful. With goals of soon attending Art Basel, Ariel plans to continue developing his artwork and expanding his outlets through work with fellow artists and musicians. Look out for Ariel and be sure to check out more of his work below.

Artist First!

His name is Righteous P. This young man's artwork speaks volumes without the need for words- but here we are describing it to you anyway! Each of his experiences in life added another notch to his belt and to the prism of his self-expression. Teaching art to Harlem school children and a spontaneous move to Atlanta are a couple of the life altering experiences that have inspired some of his artwork. Two of his biggest artistic inspirations include Salvador Dali and Hebrew Bradley. The way that an artist portrays what he's creating may be perceived in a multitude of ways to his viewers, but according to him "Art isn't really that deep, yet it IS that deep".

P has had an appreciation for Native American artwork since childhood, with a respect for the use of color ways and the overall cultural influences found in the pieces. He also loves Hindi art work because of the intense attention to detail, noting that everything found in their pieces are there for a reason. "It all means something."

While his entire being is that of an artist, his daily grind is that of a tattooist. The creative line-work and imaginative essence of his artwork are further portrayed through the pieces that he inks. P's goal is to spread a sense of joy through his artwork feeling satisfied with a drawing making someone smile. Like the legendary Bob Marley (<3) and Peter Tosh,  his goal is to leave a legacy behind that will go down in history as an inspiration and source of hope to those who need it.

Allow Us to Introduce Ourselves...

Hey there!

Welcome to Peculiar Artistry. We're a couple of young, stylish individuals that dreamt of making a style blog unlike the rest. Our mission is to capture and highlight an individuals personal style statement and act as a platform for their talents and creativity. As New Yorkers, we love to promote our city (we can't help it) so a majority of our shots will be taken right here on the streets of the Apple- BUT our travels may lead us to a town near you!

"Good new art may not look like art. Inspiration doesn't follow style, it CREATES it." -Darby Bannard
